Duolingo’s AI Shift Signals Growing Jobs Crisis

Duolingo’s shift to an “AI-first” strategy, replacing contractors with artificial intelligence, highlights a deepening jobs crisis already underway. Journalist Brian Merchant reports that the company began cutting its contractor workforce in late 2023, targeting translators first, then writers in 2024—quietly swapping out human roles for AI tools.

Merchant frames this not as a futuristic tech upheaval, but as a series of executive decisions aimed at slashing labor costs. The result is fewer entry-level positions, rising unemployment for recent grads, and shrinking opportunities in creative industries. It’s not a robot apocalypse—it’s corporate downsizing disguised as innovation.

Rockstar Devs Didn't Believe 2025 GTA 6 Release Date

Rockstar had long suspected GTA 6 wouldn’t hit its original 2025 release target, even before making the delay official. After dropping the first trailer in 2023, updates went radio silent, leaving fans restless and speculation swirling. As the months passed with no second trailer in sight, it became increasingly clear that something was off-track behind the scenes.

Now, the game has a solid release date—May 26, 2026—and the delay seems less like a surprise and more like confirmation of what many insiders already knew. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, developers at Rockstar never really saw Fall 2025 as realistic. The main reason? Too much left to do and a conscious push to avoid the kind of brutal crunch the studio has been criticized for in the past.

Skype Shuts Down After 22 Years Of Service

After over 20 years, Skype officially shut down on May 5, ending a major chapter in digital communication. Microsoft, which acquired Skype in 2011 for $8.5 billion, announced the closure earlier this year to focus on Microsoft Teams. Skype once had over 300 million monthly users, but by 2023, that number had fallen to around 36 million as Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams took over.

Microsoft is pushing users toward Teams, which offers free group calls, messaging, and file sharing—most of Skype’s key features. Users can sign in with Skype credentials, and contacts and chat history carry over. Still, the free Teams version lacks Skype’s phone-call support for mobiles and landlines.

Met Gala Celebrates Black Style With "Superfine" Theme

Monday night’s Met Gala lit up New York City with bold fashion and sharp tailoring, celebrating the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—the first menswear-focused theme since 2003. Inspired by the Met’s new exhibit on the “black dandy,” the event explored how fashion shapes Black identity across the Atlantic diaspora.

Zendaya turned heads in a cream Louis Vuitton suit paired with a dramatic wide-brimmed hat and striking red nails, while Bad Bunny collaborated with Prada on a brown suit rich in detail, including gloves, a brooch, and a hat honoring his Puerto Rican roots. The night brought together style, culture, and powerful statements on the red carpet.
