The incident occurred on October 5, 2024, when Doherty lost control of his McLaren 520s on a rainy highway during an IRL stream, causing him to slide into a guard rail and total the car. On October 14, Doherty revealed in a video that a Florida Highway Patrol officer showed up at his house with a ticket for “wireless communication while driving.” According to the officer, the citation was issued based on the viral social media clips of the crash.
