Jack Doherty ticketed by police for using phone while driving in $200K McLaren crash
Jack Doherty claims the video was "cut up" and insists he wasn't on his phone when the accident happened
Just days after being banned from Kick for crashing his $200k McLaren during a live stream, Jack Doherty was hit with a ticket for using his phone while driving. The incident occurred on October 5, 2024, when Doherty lost control of his McLaren 520s on a rainy highway during an IRL stream, causing him to slide into a guard rail and total the car. Kick quickly responded with a permanent ban.
The crash sparked reactions from prominent figures like xQc, who called Doherty “braindead,” and 100 Thieves founder Nadeshot, who suggested he deserved jail time. As the viral footage spread, many questioned whether Doherty would face legal consequences.
On October 14, Doherty revealed in a video that a Florida Highway Patrol officer showed up at his house with a ticket for “wireless communication while driving.” According to the officer, the citation was issued based on the viral social media clips of the crash. However, Doherty defended himself, saying the video was misleading. “They cut it up, I wasn’t on my phone,” he claimed. “Innocent until proven guilty, I guess.”
Since his Kick ban, Doherty has shifted to Twitch for streaming, though his appearances have been brief, with each session lasting only a few minutes. He continues to stay active on YouTube, where he has 14 million subscribers on his main channel and over 1 million on a secondary channel.
