RedNote's US Userbase Drops After TikTok Ban Extension
RedNote, a rising Chinese-owned social media platform, saw a significant drop in its US active users after President Trump extended the TikTok ban deadline. In the week leading up to the January 19 ban, many users flocked to RedNote, pushing it to the top of the App Store’s free app charts.
However, when Trump signed an executive order extending the TikTok ban on January 20, RedNote’s userbase took a hit. According to TechCrunch, the platform’s US daily active users dropped by 54% on January 20, and by 17% between January 20 and 22. As of now, RedNote has slipped well below the top 10 on the App Store, trailing behind competitors like Threads and Bluesky.

However, the promotion is currently exclusive to Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Norway, with no word yet on whether it will expand to the US or Canada.
