Ireland to Hit TikTok With €500 Million Fine

TikTok is facing a €500 million ($553 million) fine for transferring European user data to China, according to Bloomberg. The penalty, expected by the end of April, follows a four-year investigation by Ireland’s data watchdog, which oversees TikTok parent ByteDance’s EU operations from Dublin.
Investigators found that engineers in China may have accessed EU user data, violating GDPR rules. TikTok claims data is sent to the U.S., not China, but concerns were raised as early as 2021. The fine amount and timing could still change, but it’s shaping up to be one of the EU’s biggest privacy crackdowns yet.

Red Velvet’s Wendy and Yeri Leave SM

Wendy and Yeri have officially parted ways with SM Entertainment following the expiration of their exclusive contracts, the company confirmed today (April 4). Despite leaving the label, both artists will remain active members of Red Velvet, continuing group activities with the rest of the team.
In a statement, SM expressed gratitude for their time with Wendy and Yeri and shared support for their next chapters. The remaining members—Irene, Seulgi, and Joy—renewed their contracts in earlier stages between 2023 and 2025, keeping the group intact as they move forward.

NVIDIA Confirms the Switch 2 Has DLSS

Nintendo’s latest Direct gave fans a better look at the Switch 2, but skipped over some of the technical details. NVIDIA, which powers the console’s GPU and processor, filled in a key gap with a blog post confirming the Switch 2 will support DLSS—its AI-powered upscaling tech that enhances visuals while conserving performance.
NVIDIA claims DLSS can give the new console up to ten times the graphical power of the original Switch, though that’s likely an ideal scenario. Still, the hardware specs impress: up to 4K at 60fps or 120fps at lower resolutions in docked mode, and a 7.9-inch, 1080p screen with 120Hz refresh in handheld mode via G-Sync.

Minecraft Movie Gets Mixed Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes

The Minecraft Movie has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes, but early reviews are mixed. Directed by Jared Hess, the family-friendly adventure follows four misfits on a quest through the Overworld, starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen. Despite an impressive cast, early trailers have divided audiences.
The movie currently holds a 53% score from 53 reviews, earning a "rotten" designation. While the score could change, critics are split—some enjoy the quirky tone and vibrant visuals, while others feel it lacks the boundless creativity of the game. An audience score will appear after the film’s theatrical release this weekend.
