Trump Delays TikTok Ban Deadline Again

President Trump has extended the deadline for TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to find a non-Chinese buyer by 75 days, avoiding a potential ban. The move came as a surprise, especially after Trump and Vice President JD Vance were confident a resolution was close, before new tariffs on China took effect.
ByteDance now has until June 19 to comply with the 2024 law or face a ban. Trump had originally set April 5 as the deadline but delayed it through an executive order. In a post on Truth Social, Trump reassured users, stating, “We’ve made tremendous progress” on a deal to save TikTok.

Minecraft Movie Earns $157M in Opening Weekend

The Minecraft Movie has dominated the box office, raking in $157 million in its opening weekend, making it the biggest domestic debut of the year and the highest-grossing video game adaptation opening in history.
Initially projected to earn $70 million to $80 million, the film exceeded expectations thanks to its broad appeal and strong fanbase from the 2011 game. It also performed well internationally, adding $144 million for a global total of $301 million. With a production budget of $150 million, the film is off to a strong start.

Black Screen TikTok Video Hits 3.6 Billion Views

A TikTok video featuring just a black screen has unexpectedly become the platform's most-watched video with 3.6 billion views. Uploaded by user Lasi on June 7, 2023, the video auto-restarts, causing viewers to watch it repeatedly without realizing. Despite this, it has only 1.1 million likes.
Previously, Zach King's "Magic Ride" held the record with 2.3 billion views for nearly six years. Lasi’s blank screen video has now surpassed it, going viral multiple times, with the latest surge in views occurring in April 2025.

Nintendo Delays U.S. Pre-Orders for Switch 2

Nintendo has delayed U.S. pre-orders for the Switch 2, originally set for April 9, due to new tariffs announced by President Trump. The company will reassess market conditions before setting a new pre-order date.
While pre-orders are delayed, the Switch 2’s launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged. The delay follows Trump’s announcement of tariffs targeting Japan, China, and Vietnam, where Nintendo manufactures much of its hardware, with import duties of 54% and 46% on products from China and Vietnam.
